Other Training Services

Beyond primary certificate and rating training, Chapman Flight Academy offers a range of services for currently certificated pilots — currency, proficiency, and checkride preparation.

Instrument Currency & IPCs

Under 14 CFR 61.57(d), a pilot who has not met instrument experience requirements within the preceding 6 calendar months (or has lapsed beyond the following 6-month grace period) must complete an Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC) with an authorized instructor to act as pilot in command under IFR. Chapman Flight Academy provides IPCs combining a ground review of IFR procedures with an in-aircraft evaluation of instrument flying skills, approaches, and emergency procedures.

Flight Reviews

Under 14 CFR 61.56, every pilot must complete a flight review with an authorized instructor at least every 24 calendar months to continue exercising the privileges of their certificate. A flight review consists of a minimum of 1 hour of flight training and 1 hour of ground training, covering a review of current general operating and flight rules and maneuvers the instructor determines necessary. Chapman Flight Academy provides flight reviews tailored to your certificate, aircraft, and flying habits.

Ground Instruction

Ground instruction is available as a standalone service or as part of any training program — covering topics such as FAA regulations, weather theory, aerodynamics, navigation, aircraft systems, and checkride preparation. Ground sessions are one-on-one with Evan C. Chapman, CFI/CFII, and can be scheduled independently of flight lessons.

Currency Flights

Under 14 CFR 61.57, pilots must meet recent flight experience requirements — such as 3 takeoffs and landings within the preceding 90 days to carry passengers, or 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop at night within the preceding 90 days to carry passengers at night. Chapman Flight Academy schedules currency flights to help pilots maintain these requirements in the Cessna 172H.

Proficiency Training

Proficiency training is built around an individual pilot's needs — whether returning to flying after a break, transitioning into a TAA/glass-cockpit aircraft, or working on specific maneuvers, approaches, or emergency procedures. Sessions are one-on-one and scheduled around your goals.

Mock Checkrides

A mock checkride simulates the oral and flight portions of an FAA practical test, following the relevant Airman Certification Standards, so you know what to expect and where to focus your final preparation before testing with a Designated Pilot Examiner.
